Positive Behaviour Support Supervision

PBS Clinical Supervision in Queensland

Quality clinical supervision is an important part of developing as a Positive Behaviour Support practitioner.

At Horizon Counselling & Behaviour Support, we provide individualised PBS clinical supervision for practitioners across Queensland, supporting both developing and experienced practitioners with clinical practice, complex cases, ethical decision-making and professional development.

Whether you're building your foundational skills, preparing for NDIS suitability assessment or seeking external supervision for complex cases, supervision is tailored to your experience, goals and practice context.

Understanding PBS Supervision

What Does PBS Supervision Involve?

PBS supervision provides a confidential space to reflect on your practice, discuss challenging cases and strengthen your clinical decision-making.

Sessions can cover areas such as:

  • complex case consultation
  • functional behaviour assessment
  • behaviour support planning
  • implementation and review
  • restrictive practice reduction
  • ethical decision-making
  • stakeholder relationships
  • neuro-affirming practice
  • NDIS requirements and professional practice
  • capability development

The focus isn't simply on meeting supervision requirements. It's on helping you become a more confident, reflective and capable practitioner.

Supervision for PBS Practitioners

New Practitioners

Build confidence in your foundational PBS skills while having a space to discuss questions, uncertainty and challenges as you develop your practice.

Practitioners Preparing for Suitability Assessment

Receive structured support with capability development, evidence gathering, portfolio preparation and identifying areas for further development.

Experienced Practitioners

Use external supervision to explore complex cases, ethical dilemmas, challenging practice situations and areas for professional growth.

Practitioners Changing Practice Contexts

Supervision can provide additional support when moving between different participant groups, organisations or areas of PBS practice.

Complex Case Consultation

Bring challenging cases to supervision and work through them collaboratively.

We can explore:

  • potential functions of behaviour
  • environmental and systemic factors
  • assessment information
  • intervention approaches
  • stakeholder perspectives
  • ethical considerations
  • restrictive practice considerations
  • opportunities to strengthen quality of life

The goal isn't simply to provide you with an answer. It's to strengthen your ability to analyse complex situations and make sound clinical decisions independently.

Developing Neuro-Affirming PBS Practice

Neuro-affirming practice requires more than avoiding deficit-based language.

Supervision provides an opportunity to critically reflect on how assumptions about behaviour, communication, disability and neurodivergence can influence assessment and intervention.

Together, we can explore how to support autonomy and participation while addressing genuine safety concerns and behaviours that significantly affect quality of life.

How Supervision Works

Initial Consultation

We begin with a conversation about your experience, current practice, supervision needs and professional goals.

Supervision Agreement

We'll establish clear expectations around the structure, frequency, focus and documentation of supervision.

Regular Sessions

Supervision can be arranged on a regular basis or used for consultation around specific clinical needs.

Sessions are available in person in Springfield Lakes or via telehealth across Queensland.

Ongoing Development

Supervision can evolve alongside your practice, with sessions balancing immediate clinical questions and longer-term professional development.

What Our Clients Say

  • Penny made me realise it's okay not to always have everything figured out straight away, and that flexibility and learning as you go is just part of the role. I've definitely had moments where I've doubted myself or wondered if I was missing something, so hearing that helped ease that a bit.
